PSPA Research Projects Grants

Applications are now open for PSPA Research Projects Grants

PSPA is excited to announce the launch of the first grant call from funds raised by our Research Appeal, Understood – is that too much to ask? PSPA are looking to fund a project up to the value of £250,000 aimed at improving the lives of individuals living with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) and Corticobasal Degeneration (CBD).

Applications will be considered by a panel of independent research experts who will recommend appropriate projects for funding to the charity’s Board of Trustees.

Applications are invited from all career stages and professionals, resident in the UK, with a track record of interest in neurodegenerative conditions. Projects led by Allied Health Professionals are welcomed.

Grants are tenable up to three years.

The grants are available to the award-holder only for direct research expenses (including but not limited to research lead salaries, research assistant time and equipment, excluding replacement teachings or computers) and travel/subsistence costs.

UNDERSTOOD RESEARCH APPEAL AIMS

We are seeking proposals for projects that fall into one of the following key areas:

  1. Quick and Accurate Diagnosis

We are inviting projects that focus on advancing diagnostic methods for PSP & CBD, with an emphasis on speed, accuracy, and early detection. This includes the development of new cellular models of PSP & CBD, diagnostic tools, biomarkers, imaging techniques, or AI-driven solutions to enable quicker and more precise diagnosis, particularly in the critical early stages of the disease.

  1. Immediate Treatment

We are looking for proposals that can help develop immediate treatment methods for PSP & CBD. This includes approaches to rapidly identify treatment needs, improve access to timely interventions, or explore novel treatments that can slow disease progression and improve quality of life.

  1. Consistent Standards of Care

We aim to support projects that focus on establishing or enhancing consistent standards of care for individuals with PSP & CBD. This includes the creation of clinical guidelines, best practice frameworks, or educational initiatives that ensure that all patients receive the highest standard of care, regardless of their location or healthcare setting.
