This September, PSPA supporter Fiona Copp from Aberdeenshire, will be running the Crathes Half Marathon in honour of her dad, Andy, who lived with CBD until 2018.
Following her dad’s death, Fiona and her family have been keen supporters of PSPA and through the years the family have taken various activities to raise funds for the charity, including treks, raffles and local walks.
This year, Fiona choose the Crathes event on 24 September to be her very first half marathon to give herself a personal challenge as well as raise funds in memory of her dad and awareness of CBD.
Fiona said “It has been several years since my dad died from CBD, a largely unknown, incurable, degenerative neurological condition. After dad’s diagnosis, it was hard to find hope. We knew where the path ahead would lead.
But I am running for hope. I am choosing to hope that in the future, through research, trials, donations and awareness, that a cure will be found. Step by step we will get there and in the here and now, PSPA are on hand to support individuals living with PSP & CBD, their families, and to fund research into a cure.
I have never run a half marathon before. My toddler, who never knew my dad, has been my training companion on runs with the buggy around my local town in Scotland. It has taken a lot to reach this stage. On the harder days, I think of dad, who inspires me to keep putting one foot in front of the other, particularly when the going gets tough – and not just when training. He is my inspiration.”
